There is no better way to explore the Dolomites than on a bike, road or MTB. And you don’t need to be sporty or a champion. There are easy routes, such as the Dolomites cycle path, or you can rent an e-bike that will certainly make life easier on the more demanding routes.
This route is ideal for those who love long bike rides and beautiful scenery, but do not want to or cannot face very demanding routes and long climbs. The cycle path offers a variety of terrain, including flat stretches, descents and a few rare climbs, linking Val di Fassa with neighbouring Val di Fiemme along a 47.5-kilometre scenic route.
Starting from Canazei, near the sports ground and playground, take the forest dirt road called “Cercenà”. The shaded route reaches the “Soreghès” plain and the Col Rodella cable car station in Campitello, following the course of the Avisio stream.
Flat stretches alternate with short climbs as you reach the villages of Fontanazzo, Campestrin and Mazzin. From here a descent begins towards Pera, with a few more easy ups and downs as far as Fraine. After leaving the votive chapel on your left, cross a wooden bridge on the right and continue on the asphalt road until you reach the main road and pass the roundabout for the centre of Pozza.
Opposite Hotel Monzoni you can rejoin the cycle path and descend towards lower Val di Fassa, with the path once again running along the Avisio river and offering splendid views of the Latemar and Catinaccio ridges. After the Soraga industrial area, you will reach the playground and the village centre in a few minutes, before tackling the short climb to “Palua”.
Looking back, you can admire the beauty of Val di Fassa, framed by the imposing rocky peaks of the Rosengarten (Catinaccio), Sassolungo, Pordoi and Monzoni. From here the road descends again towards Moena, where the cycle path ends near the Alpine Training Centre. To continue, you need to cross the whole village (using the main road or Prato di Sorte) until you reach the Moena plain – the starting point of the legendary Marcialonga in winter – and rejoin the cycle and pedestrian path that continues towards Predazzo and Val di Fiemme.
The route is really pleasant and relaxing, especially if you have chosen an e-bike; the only stretches that require attention are those inside the villages, where you have to cross local and main roads that can sometimes be quite busy.
You can split this ride into 2 stages. Starting from our hotel, you can ride a first stretch from Moena to Canazei and, the next day, a second stretch from Moena to Molina di Fiemme. Fountains, picnic areas and playgrounds along the way make this cycle path particularly suitable for families with children.
